All hard drives are removed from devices and are assessed for their health and reuse value. If they are healthy, we erase the drives to the same methodology as HMG Infosec 5 – a UK government standard. Drives that are unhealthy or obsolete are crushed and recycled to render data recovery virtually impossible. At North Wales Computer Recycling Ltd, we store drives awaiting destruction in our safe, in our secure premises, for your complete peace of mind. Certification of drive erasure or destruction is sent to our client upon completion, along with a drive list.

Mobile phones, tablets and some laptops with soldered on storage chips (i.e. not removable hard drives), cannot be erased due to a number of reasons, most commonly because the device is broken or because the devices are secured with a pin, screen lock and or an account. Therefore, mobile phones and tablets are sent to an end of life facility where we ask that they are dealt with in line with data protection policies, but we cannot certify their erasure. Please get in touch if you want information on how to securely wipe your phone/tablet before passing to us to recycle.

NWCRL can also offer on-site drive destruction by request – please contact us for a quotation.
